Italian Inspiration

I tried to concentrate on a the history behind the Luxardo family. A story, full of passion, joy and pain. I dedicate this drink to Giorgio Luxardo, who after the tragedy of WWII, had the courage to rebuild the family and drive it in the right way. I chose to use the Luxardo Maraschino Originale for its sweetness and complexity. It's the first and the most famous product from the Luxardo family, to remind us that Girolamo Luxardo was a government representative for the Kingdom of Sardinia.I have used Mirto for its dryness at the final note. For the bitterness factor I have chosen bitter herb and fruit liquer, another traditional product from Italy. With it's red colour, it reminds us of the tragedy the Luxardo family suffered during the WWII. In 2014, we're now witnessing the rebirth of the Vermouth, and like every good Italian bartender, I how a vermouth is made. So I made a reduction of Moscato and infused it with cinnamon, gentian, wormwood, lemon, orange peel, and sugar. The final touch are four fresh basil leaves to remind us of the hometown of Girolamo Luxardo; Genova. The aromatic and smoky essence of the Luxardo Maraschino Cherry garnish is used to remind us of the passion, courage and the knowledge Giorgio Luxardo instilled in his work.

  • Pour all the ingredients into the cocktails shaker,
  • Shake and double strain in a chill vintage glass,
  • Garnish with a flamed bouquet of basil and Luxardo Maraschino Cherries on the side.
